The Boy In The Striped Pajamas is a book by John Boyne that was published in 2006. This book takes place during the holocaust. A little boy named Bruno, his mom, dad and sister Gretel move from their home to a new house where the father is in charge of a concentration camp. Bruno goes exploring at the new house and makes his way to the concentration camp finding a young boy, the same age as himself, named Shmuel. In 2008 a movie adapted from the book directed and written by Mark Herman, was made. The movie was very similar to the book and followed the storyline well. However, the setting had a few small elements that were changed from the book as well as in the plot and ending. There were some differences in plot. The differences are,
The differences are, in the book Bruno comes to Maria to ask her about his dad, Maria tells him the story of how she came to work for the family explaining how kind he was to her. In the book, there was a time when the Führer came to dinner at Bruno's house. There was as scene in the book where Bruno goes over to the concentration camp and goes on the Shmuel's side through a loose spot in the fence. On the other hand, in the movie Bruno never goes to Maria so she never tells him about his father, this makes maria seem less important and there isn't really a bond between Bruno and Maria. The Führer never makes an appearance in the movie and Bruno has to bring a shovel and dig a hole under the fence to get to Shmuel's side. There were some differences in ending. The differences are, in the book it takes months to find out what happened to Bruno, Bruno's mom, and Gretel even goes back to Berlin, where they moved from, hoping he might have made his way back there. The ending was slow and very undramatic. However, in the movie, they find out what happened to Bruno the same day he goes missing. In the movie, they send soldiers to look for Bruno. The ending is very fast and dramatic and
