The movie and the story, "The Birds" have many similarities and differences. From characters, to settings, to minor differences in the plot. The story "The Birds" is about a fishing village in Cornwall, England being attacked by masses of birds. The main character, Nat, is ahead of everyone else when he notices the birds' strange behavior. In the movie, the main character is Melanie Daniels, she travels from San Francisco to Bodega Bay to deliver some lovebirds to Cathy, Mitch Brenners eleven year old sister. In the movie, they are attacked by birds in the same way, but way more gory.
There are some similarities between the book and the movie. For example, the birds attack in the same ways. They come through the house, peck at windows, and try to break down the doors, which they do succeed in doing. Another similarity is using the blanket as a weapon. In the movie, Mitch uses it to block the birds from pecking at him, and in the book, Nat uses it to stop type birds from attacking him and his children. Also, in the movie and book, when the children are running away from the school, a little girl gets severely scratched across her face, and almost all of the children—except Cathy/Jill—die from the attack. One more similarity is the endings of both the story and movie. The story ends with almost everyone—not including Nat's family—dead, due to the bird attacks, never getting the newscast on what's happening. In the movie, Melanie—who was brutally attacked by the birds—, Mitch, Cathy, and Lydia driving away from Bodega Bay—the only place attacked by birds—after everyone else is already dead. Both portrayals of "The Birds" end with you wondering what happens next.
There are many differences in the movie and the story. For example, the main characters. In the movie the main character is Melanie Daniels. But in the story, the main character is Nat. The settings are also different. In the
