Summarize the current event here: The Boy Scout of America is removing its national ban on gay scout leaders. As of Monday July 27th 2015 scout leaders are now allowed on a national level to be openly gay. There is though one problem that has come under controversy. The boy scouts of America have removed the national ban, and have instead placed that responsibility of determining if they want gay leaders on to each individual troop. Meaning that even though there is no specific ban on a national level each troop can decide whether or not they will allow gay leaders. While there is still some controversy this is
a great leap forward in progress for the boy scouts of America.
Opinion: I am extremely happy about this announcement. While it does have its problems it is a giant leap towards progress. As of 2013 they finally lifted the ban on gay scouts. Now we are moving towards allowing gay scout leaders. This is showing a great social change towards acceptance of the LGBT community. The boy scouts of America has always been a Christian influenced group. To see such a massive group show its support for their gay troop leaders is wonderful. We are in the middle of a truly progressive era. We constantly are making strides towards true equality. Gay marriage was just legalized this year! Now gay scout leaders can come out without fear of being removed from their position. I can’t wait to see the next great improvement for the LGBT community
