A fashion stylist is one who shops for, studies body types, personalities, personal tastes etc. of a potential client. The job duties a fashion stylist are as follows; personal shopping trips for clients, and one on one evaluations that determine the personal tastes and preferences of clients as well as make them aware of their body type and present them with figure flattering options. Depending on the area of choice, this job could also include dressing models for photoshoots, magazines, movie and video sets as well as events.
There are no actual educational requirements for this career. Stylists are majority freelancers and have a natural knack for fashion styling such as myself. I do, however, have a degree in Fashion Design which I belive has helped to allow me to better cultivate my talents. I have never actually wanted to design, but seeing as though their is no degree for stylists, this was the next best thing. I believe that any aspiring stylist would do themselves tons of good if they were to take up even the minimum of fashion education classes. The more you know, the better you are in this industry.
