If You're Bored With Your Job, Consider Becoming A Hair Stylist

If you're looking for a fun career, you should consider becoming a hair stylist. You'll have an outlet for your creativity, you'll work with people, and you'll get plenty of physical activity each day. If that sounds more exciting than sitting in an isolated cubical all day while typing on a computer or talking on a phone, then you should look into cosmetology school. Here's a quick look at getting started as a cosmetologist.

Skills Needed

Some people are better suited for this profession than others. You should enjoy talking to other people, even strangers. You'll want to establish good rapport with your customers to put them at ease and create an enjoyable working environment.

First, you'll learn about the theory behind techniques such as cutting, coloring, and perming hair. Next, you'll progress to working on mannequin heads with wigs. Once you have show proficiency working on the wigs and have demonstrated good understanding of the classroom material, you'll be able to work on customers that come into the beauty school for hair cuts and other treatments. Your work will be closely supervised until you have passed the state examination. Once you have your license in hand, you are allowed to work independently in a salon, as a rep for a beauty line, or as a self-employed stylist.

A career as a hair stylist is a good choice because the profession is always in demand. Hair coloring and cutting trends are always changing and a certain sector of the population are always willing to spend their money on looking great. Men, women, and kids need regular hair cuts, so there are many jobs held in local beauty salons. If you have your sights set higher, be prepared for stiff competition.

You'll need exceptional skill and the right contacts to land a job in a high end salon and become a highly paid stylist. Another option is to freelance in the entertainment industry. You could also market beauty products and supplies. Even though the bulk of the jobs are found in local salons and barber shops, the options exist for transforming your training into a lucrative

    When wanting to be a good Cosmetologist that person has to have good work ethics as in being self-motivated with their work. Cosmetology careers are jobs that help someone’s appearance look better over time as the hair is done by a licensed worker (An Introduction to Cosmetology).
