The aim of this experiment is to find out and measure the effect of exercise on the respiratory system.
I predict that whilst carrying out the exercise, the breathing rate will considerably increase from resting to working breathing rate. However due to the fitness of the volunteer this breathing rate could be different. As soon as the volunteer has stopped the exercise, I predict that the breathing rate will steadily decrease over a number of minutes until it gets back to resting breathing rate.
I can justify my prediction as throughout the exercise the oxygen requirement will increase to allow the lactic acid to decrease and the muscles to carry out the movement. The oxygen is obtain through the inhaling the air in through the lungs …show more content…
Between the 2 groups there was a clear difference between the two. This would be because of the fitness of the volunteer. As one of the groups contained boys, it is scientifically proven that the average boy is fitter than the average girl. Therefore this indicates that the fitter the person the quicker the recovery rate or when carrying out exercise the fitter the person the lower the breathing rate. You must also take into consideration when using other results you need to think about the accuracy. We know that they were a comparable age, however slightly fitter than our group and they carried out the same technique as our group (type of exercise, timings for recovery rate). The only factor that was different was the amount of time they carried out their exercise as our group did 5 minutes at a steady pace and the other group did 3 minutes at a steady pace. This made the overall results slightly inaccurate and unreliable as it is altering a control variable. Overall I think that the experiment was very successful even though some areas could be improved, such as the breathing rate was measured by the candidate as they could alter the breathing rate
