Brian S Lunch
1) Give a brief summary of the case. The case summaries about how a couple named Brian and Tonya come to a conclusion on how to have their everyday lunch. The couple were at constant argument with each other about how to save money for a vacation to Rome. However, those discussions would always involve their packing of lunches. In this case they average out that they require 40 lunches each month. They also estimated that having lunch outside would cost them around 15$ each whereas lunch packed from home averaged to about $5 each. By this estimation they also concluded that that the latter was more nutritious and healthy when compared to outside lunches. By having home made lunches they would save $4800 a year which is enough for a 10 day trip to Rome. They talk to each other to make a serious commitment towards packing lunch from home. Brian employs the concept of "Inventory control and reorder point" for their lunch packing from home which he had learned in his class. This concept would help them on how much inventory they have to keep to avoid running out. In between their conversation Tonya reminds Brian that packing lunch from home is not always possible as sometimes they might be having some lunch meetings and at times for a change they might want to have lunch outside. Taking this into consideration Brian concludes that they can have have a lunch meeting once in a week however, this would effect their planned out savings amount as it would come down to $3840. Tonya says that even $3840 would be sufficient for their trip to Rome.
Brain then explains Tonya on how they can improve their process. Brian categorizes their lunch into three microwaveable, leftovers and freshly prepared. He also says that they have to double the amount of quantity of groceries they usually buy from the store and a restore point of a grocery to 4. So once any grocery reaches to that number they can restore that grocery. Tonya then conveys to Brian that

The VP of Operations of Cadman Foods faces the decision of having to allocate three million pounds of tomatoes to the production of canned whole tomatoes, tomato juice or tomato paste. Subsequent to that decision, the VP needs to determine whether to acquire 80,000 pounds of additional “A” quality tomatoes at $0.425 per pound. Bill Cooper, the Controller at Cadman Foods has recommended that Cadman produce the maximum quantity of canned whole tomatoes based on Dan Tuckers assessment of the tomato crop. By logical extrapolation, this would result in the remainder of the crop being allocated to the production of tomato paste. Charles Myers, the Sales Manager at Cadman has recommended that instead, 2/3 of the tomato crop be used in the production of tomato paste while the remaining crop should be used in the production of tomato juice. Mr. Meyers arrived at his recommendation based on cost ratio derived on the basis of quality of tomato crop and marginal profit.…

What is the appropriate and right amount of food we eat? In the article, “Want Fewer Fries with That,” the authors Paul Rozin and Andrew Geier discuss obesity and the differences in food consumptions amongst Americans and the French. Their main argument is, “We would have a somewhat more advantage on our health and obesity if places that sale and serve food would cut their portion sizes and charge the same, they would make a profit, but we would be healthier.” They speculate that “unit bias” suggests that smaller decreases in portion size would reduce sustenance consumption of food intake. They clarify that weight control and obesity is controlled in the mind.…

The idea of Julia borrowing money would not be necessary because what is limiting her profit is the limited space she has in the oven. In the model all of the oven space is being utilized by Pizza and Hotdogs. If she borrowed money she wouldn’t have enough room to stock more food. She would have to borrow enough money to rent another oven, if there was enough space in the booth, and enough money to buy additional supplies. In addition, assuming that my calculations are correct paying a friend to help her does not seem like a good idea as it would further cut into any profit and increase costs.…

When students buy their lunch in a typical cafeteria, they expect decent, put together meals. Students usually see long lunch lines, hear loud talking, and eat fatty and disgusting food. In the lunch rooms I see unhealthy nasty food that everyone eats every single day. I have seen chili that smells like dog poop, nacho cheese that looks like barbeque sauce that got mixed in. Also the burritos tastes like vomit which was as hard as a rock. School cafeterias need to make more edible food and provide a healthier and more delicious variety of food.…

School lunches today are not as hearty and delicious as they were back in the day. When I was a child my lunches were prepared at school by the cafeteria workers. Today, the cafeteria workers heat up the already prepared food. Today's food is prepared by means of "nuking" it in the microwave, or heated up in the oven. This could maybe be the cause of obesity with the unhealthy choices at lunchtime in the dining halls.…

[Prices are identical at the two Burger King locations.] Every week the Burger King owner advertises special price offers at its two restaurants exclusively in daily newspaper advertisements. A is the dollar amount spent on newspaper ads for each week in 1998. The owner could not provide PWC with data on prices charged by other competing restaurants during 1998.
