After the ritual ends the area empties and the young savage approaches Bernard and Lenina. This man is white and speaks English, unlike the others. His name is John and he explains his story and how his mother is not from the village, but was once visiting with a man and fell down a ravine and a few hunters found her and brought her back to the reservation. John instantly becomes famous. His celebrity is also making Bernard popular. During this time, Linda is just lying in bed taking soma. John and Lenina go on a date to a movie, then go back to Lenina’s apartment where she tries to sleep with him. He gets angry and leaves. Lenina is upset and cannot understand why he will not sleep with her. She constantly thinks about him and decides to go see him. When she gets there John brings up the idea of marriage. Lenina is horrified and takes her clothes off to try to get him in bed. John rages and calls her a whore, yet then he gets a phone call about is mother in the hospital. John gets there and tries to talk to his mother but she keeps going in and out because she is on a high dose of soma. Linda dies and John rages out of the hospital and runs into patients getting their soma rations and he freaks out. He begins to scream that it is poison and gets into a large fight. Bernard, Helmholtz, and John are sent away because they think differently and do not fit into society. John lives in an old lighthouse alone where he enjoys himself until one day crowds of people show up and insist he do his whipping ritual. The crowd comes back the next day to find that John hung
