Every moment in life is precious. Whether it be small like your thirteenth birthday, or huge like your wedding day. In today’s world we seem to take theses things for granted. In the drama “Our Town”, Wilder wants the audience to realize how they need to appreciate everything in life because there will never be a second chance. We need to live life to the fullest. Eventually the time will come where we are lying on our deathbed and regretting all the things in life that we took for granted. Wilder wants us to appreciate, welcome, embrace, repeat, love, and share every ordinary day-to-day moments in life. The drama “Our Town” shows that we need to clutch on to every moment because it could very well be our last.
We need to appreciate moments in life. God has put so many things on this earth for us to appreciate, for example the beach. The …show more content…
feeling of sitting on a sandy beach when the sun is just starting to set. The different shades of blues, pinks, oranges, yellows, and red filling the sky. The seagulls happily chirping in the air. The sound of the waves crashing on the shore. The smell of the salty air. My family and close friends sitting next to me. My brothers making jokes and goofing off. My brothers and I arguing about the stupidest things, but I would not change it for anything. These moments I will cherish forever, even if my brothers get on my last nerve. I appreciate that I am able to wake up every morning with a different challenge, memory, laugh, or cry ahead of me.
One thing to welcome in life is birth. Many people do not want to bring new life into this world for it can be a cruel place. In “Our Town”, Emily dies of childbirth at a young age. She has brought two children into the world before her death. Two children who will grow up and soon have children of their own. Wilder shows his audience that with death comes life. Death can be very painful and it can be hard to find the good in it. Emily Webb might have died but she left a part of her on earth. She left her children. That is the beautiful thing. With every birth, someones name will get carried into the future.
There is many day-to-day acts that we should embrace.
Every morning we are given another day to live and make new memories. We need to embrace all that God has given us. The morning sunlight should be embraced. To stand outside and feel the refreshing heat of the sun on ones face. The ability to embrace my family and friends whenever I please. The warmth that my father and mother’s hug provides when I am at my lowest. Their hugs is something I will carry with me even after they are gone. I will cherish these moments I am given to embrace.
I am sitting in the drive through of Bojangles and I have just placed my order. “That will be $10.56, please pull up to the next window” the worker said to me. I pull up to the window with the exact change in hand. As I go to hand the money to the cashier, I am told that the person in front of me has already paid for it. I feel shocked and happy that someone would do that. I choose to repeat their act of kindness. I quickly payed for the food in the vehicle behind me. A total stranger, out of the kindness of their heart, payed for my meal. This is a act that I chose to
repeat.
My parents have provided me with so much love. They do so many small acts that I have taken for granted. They know when I am having a bad day without even talking to me. They provide me with small gifts when least expected. I love every little moment they give me. They share their love with me. People should share with each other. Share laughs, stories, and even share sadness.
In “Our Town”, Wilder shows how people do not cherish the time they have on earth until it is to late. How we think the smallest moments are irrelevant. In the play, Emily comes to realize this. The stage manager tells Emily she can have the choice to view one memory. Mrs. Gibbs tells Emily to choose the least important day of her life. Emily chose to go back to her 12th birthday. She watches her family go through the day not savoring what was happening. She speaks of how humans do not realize what is right in front of them. Simon Stinson tell Emily that “ignorance is bliss” in anger. Even on the brink of death we do not realize what we have missed. Life is short and time is of the essence.
