Brooklyn Blue-Nine And The Big Bang Theory
I find witty comedy the funniest, particularly sitcoms and other types of television shows. Some of my favorite comedy programs are Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Big Bang Theory. I also enjoy movies like Step Brothers and Mean Girls. They type of comedy I enjoy also shows up in some of the podcast I listen to, some of them are not necessarily meant to be humorous, but they make jokes when they see the opportunity.
What I like the most about witty comedy is the big personalities and dramatic reactions, the characters usually get themselves into awkward situations and try crazy things to get themselves out. What also makes this type of humor my favorite it that the storyline is usually something relatable, probably not to the extent they are experiencing,

What then, is the formula found in comedies such as Seinfeld, that makes it work so well? Is it it's ability to make us laugh? How and why does it make us laugh? Gracia is of the belief that one of the main reasons comedies work so well at making us laugh is that they demonstrate “The Significance of the Insignificant.”(Gracia, 2000, p.149.)…

Some of the types of humour used includes vulgar humour e.g. “DOUG: poofter”, one-liners e.g. “JUSTIN: Where would the world be without social workers? DOUG: In tip top condition”, and running jokes e.g. “CHERRY: go burn a cat”. Using humour really helps the audience connect with the characters and draws them into the world of the play showing that mentally ill people are certainly not that different from the supposedly ‘normal’…

Comic Fools To create humor in drama, one must either make witty wordplay, create an amusing situation, or use physical comedy. Often jokes may be incorporated into a play, or a comic situation may result in a series of complicated antics. The tradition for some of these comic devices has been carried over for hundreds of years, dating back to Shakespeare in the 1600's.…

The movie “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” is a successful example of comedy. It was theoretical released on April 18, 2008. The film was brought together by a group of well acted performers and was very famous for perfectly combining the hilarious performances and the laughter together. I think that a successful comedy movie has to have these important factors. First, it needs to be performed with the perfect sounds elements such as the background music and the songs in the movie; second, the movie should be brought by some famous figures and directors, which were well-known in the comedy industry to make sure it will have a great hit this time; third, there should be a lot of stupid scenes with nonsense in the movie that will make people laugh their heads off.…

There Twain discovered his talent for humor. “There is nothing that makes me prouder than to be regarded by intelligent people as authentic,” said Mark Twain. Twain’s humor was about how individuals performed rather than expressed their characters. Stand up comedians perform oral narratives, usually monologues, in which they appear to express themselves rather than play a role. This is the role Mark Twain chose for himself as a lecturer from 1866-1874, a century before the comedians that most critics discuss today.…

Some other comical factors is when reverend Parris has his tantrums but they aren’t even funny, because he is just lying to save his own reputation; ruining everyone else’s. Mrs. Putnam thinking Tituba had the power to allow her to communicate with her dead babies, could be considered funny. Other than she is dead serious, and assigns guilt ruthlessly. When mercy Lewis was caught dancing naked in the woods by Paris, would be funny except she lies compulsively and she condemned men and women to protect herself. There are a few comical moments in the book but over all this is a tragedy not a comedy.…

These techniques not only make the sitcom funny, they also make its characters unforgettable. The techniques include physical humour, sarcasm, irony, truth, human weaknesses, understatement, overstatement, contradictory and immaturity. These techniques are usually used in a stereotyped manner and are typically predictable. For instance, something precious will always get lost and be seen again. Also, these techniques are only funny in the correct situation and only when applied to the correct character. For example, in the sitcom Friends, Joey is memorable for his one liners and immaturity, while Chandler is remembered for his sarcasm and human…

Humour in sitcoms is created by using characters to their maximum. Sarcastic characters will make witty one-liners, babies will always disappear, the boss will always be picked on, all these things that we see stereotypically happening HAPPEN. Friends is a good example of character stereotypes being milked for all they are worth. Joey’s snappy one-liners and his never ending quest to be an actor that leads him into various funny situations like him trying to be 19 or always being late to auditions. Phoebe’s weird lyrics and strange on-and-off long term relationship with David is another example. Classic stereotypical jokes and situations are what make sitcoms so funny and the jokes are what make characters…
