Scenario
Billie Brown is planning to leave her job with a leading airline to set up business as a full time potter. To promote the business she will need a web site and she also wants to produce a catalogue that can be sent to prospective customers. In addition, she will need business cards and advertising leaflets. All marketing materials will need to include the company logo (which she has yet to create). Billie did a photography course many years ago but has little real understanding of digital photography. However, as a creative person, she is keen to take her own photos and save money by producing the web site graphics and as much of the advertising material as she can. She has asked you for advice and guidance.
Task 1
P1 Explain the function of computer hardware components
Create a report to include images and text in your own words. This needs to be split into the following sections :
1. Components inside a computer 2. Communication between components 3. Peripheral devices 4. Backing Storage
Task 2
P2 Explain the purpose of operating systems
Create a report - make sure you include these aspects in your report
* machine management * peripheral management, * security, * file management, * the difference between a Command Line Interface and a Graphical User Interface (GUI). (Explain, with screen shots). * Software "drivers". (Explain what a "driver" is - why they are needed - why they sometimes need to be upgraded. Identify three components that would need a "driver".

Computers need to be maintained on a regular basis. Software utilities can often play a useful role in the maintenance of a computer system. In a short report, explain why you would carry out the following maintenance tasks and the role of relevant software utilities.
