Fashion models heavily underestimate the affect that they have on young and old women. The media's exposure of models is constant. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists Website "“The average American is exposed to about 3000 advertising messages a day, and globally corporations spend over $620 billion each year to make their products seem desirable and to get us to buy them.” These repeated images of rail-thin models can have a major psychological effect and damage on a persons self esteem and body image.

BMI should be the new indicator of how skinny is too skinny. BMI has a formula which is weight in pounds times 703 divided by height in inches squared. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both men and women. A person is considered underweight with a BMI of 18.5. A low body mass can decrease your body's immune system, which could lead to ilness such as disappearance of periods (women), bone loss, malnutrition and other conditions. The lower the BMI, the more serious the risk and unfortunatewly this is the weight range most. I believe if someone is underweight then there BMI will show it. If they are underweight then they should not be on the runways any longer. These women are underweight it is not only bad for the impression it leaves on others but it is bed for themselves too. An underweight body is not a healthy body. They need nutrition. . Madrid banned overly thin models, saying it wanted to project beauty and health. Madrid's fashion week has turned away underweight models after protests that girls and young women were trying to copy their rail-thin looks and developing eating disorders.
