Bullying In School
The word bullying is often associated with a person that inflicts some form of harassment against another person. This harassment is often driven by discrimination, jealousy or just cruelty against the handicapped. Bullying has become a major issue among our society today, it has been found that it not only has a negative effect on the victim, but it also affects families, friends, school administrators, and our communities as a whole and it must not be tolerated. It is an urgent need for families, friends, school administrators, and communities to raise their voices. No one should have to live in fear because of their disabilities.
What drives a person to act out and bully someone? Is it home life, a lack of self-esteem or confidence, or is just for sheer enjoyment? Bullying can be driven by these things as well as many others. Discrimination is a reason used very often to bully someone. Whether it is because of their color, size, disabilities, social standing, gender, or religion it is still used every day. There are also people that bully because of jealousy. A person may simply have a pair of shoes that the bully wants. The bully may torment this person to the point that they give them to him/her. There are also those instances of the students who have special needs; they seem to be the target of bullies. The bully most likely picks on them because they are seen as strange or weird by their peers. Most cases of bullying are never mentioned or they go unnoticed, even by the school administrators. Everything usually appears to be normal until something bad happens.
When a child starts making drastic changes or little things seem to affect them differently, someone should take notice. For instance if a child should go from being a straight “A” student to failing a class or they all of a sudden become extremely uneasy about going to school, ask questions.
