The oldest inhabitants of southern Africa are the Bushmen, they have lived there for over 20,000 years. Their home is in the area of the Kalahari desert which covers part of South Africa, Namibia, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. They are called Bushman, Basarwa (in Botswana), San (in Namibia and South Africa), Khoikhoi, Khoisan and Bantu. The Bushmen are worhispers of the moon. They believe that when people and animals die they come back in the form of stars. They believe if you abuse the environment, you will be punished by a higher being so they never take more from the land than they need to survive. One of the rituals that is passed down, is teaching the young boys how to track an antelope. The young boy is considered an adult after he kills his first antelope with an arrow.
