Business research is a systematic process that provides businesses with the information to guide and help make better decisions. A business will plan, acquire, and analyze data and provide that information to management so that they can make decisions and changes to maximize performance (Cooper & Schindler, 2011).
I personally have worked in several positions that have required me to perform quite a bit of research. I worked in the marketing department of my old company and was constantly challenged with creating and publishing content relevant to our market space. Content only stays fresh for a short while so I was always tasked to stay on top of what was relevant to our prospective clients. It is no secret that social media has become one of the most heavily used forms of research and information sharing. We wanted to take this a step further and learn about what was being said not only about us as a company but about our industry – print. The printing industry has definitely faced its share of setbacks over the last ten years or so. Consumers are trying to save their pennies while also becoming more efficient so print has slowed down a bit.
We installed a social media monitoring software that was able to track what was being said about the print industry and our company. This gave us better insight into what people were really thinking and saying and what our buyers were thinking. We were given that edge that set us apart and we were able to create more relevant content based on what people were saying in real time and increase our sales which added profit back into our company, something that was much needed.
