Supervisor – is a higher hierarchical level than the customer or sales assistant. They provide support for the manager by leading a small team within the business as instructed by the store manager. The supervisor has to make sure that the team achieve the targets set for it by the manager.
Duties
Coordinating and planning staff activities to make sure that all jobs are being carried out so that sales targets are met.
Supervising the work of the team members.
Dealing with enquiries and complaints referred to the supervisor by the sales staff.
Training new sales staff.
Serving customers as and when required.
Preparing reports for the manager when required.
Deal with cashing up of receipts for the area that they supervise.
To organise promotional activities for the area that they supervise.
Makes sure that the store/part of the store that they supervise is well maintained and that all health and safety standards are met e.g. enough stock, displays and promotions, cleanliness of the store.
Qualities
Strong written and oral communication skills to be able to communicate with both customers and colleagues at all levels of seniority.
Decision making to determine the correct course of action and follow through to successful resolution.
Good organisational skills, ability to prioritise your work and the work of the team.
The confidence and the ability to motivate staff.
Good working knowledge of own product/department area
Experience of handling retail transactions involving cash, cheques, vouchers, credit cards, the EPOS system
