The baby responds with obvious pleasure to loving attention and cuddles.
The baby fixes his or her eyes unblinkingly on carers face when feeding. 4-6months: the baby shows trust ans security. The baby has recognised sleeping patterns. 6-9months: the baby can manage to feed him or her self using fingers. The baby is now more wary of strangers, sometimes showing stranger fear. The baby might offer toys to others. The baby might show distress when his or her mother leaves. The baby typically begins to crawl and this means he or she can do more or him or herself, reach for objects and get to places and people. The baby is now more aware of other peoples feelings for example he or she may if their brother cries. 9-12months:the baby enjoys songs ans action rhymes. The baby still likes to be near to a familiar adult. The baby can drink from a cup with help. The baby will play alone for long periods. The baby has and shows definate likes and dislikes at mealtimes and bedtimes. 1-2years: the child begins to have a longer memory. The child developsa sense of identity. The child expresses his or her needs in words and gestures. Enjoys being able to walk and is eager to get dressed. The child is aware when others are fearful or
anxious. 2years: the child is curious about his or her environment. Pretend play develops rapidly when adults encourage it. The child begins to be able to say how he or she is feeling but is frustrated when unable to express. Can dress themselves and is able to go to the toilet on their own but need sensitive support. Plays with more children. 3years: the child begins to develop a sense of gender being aware of male and female. The child makes friends and is interested in having friends. The child learns to negotiate, give and take through experimenting with feeling power. The child is easily afraid e.g or the dark. 4years: the child likes to be independant and is strongly self-willed. The child shows a sense of humour. The child can undress and dress themself except for laces and back buttons. The child can wash and dry his or her hands and brush his or her teeth. 5-8years: child develops a stable self-concept. The child can hide their feelings once they can begin to control them. The child can think of the feelings if others. The child can take responsibility. 8-11years: the child may become discouraged easily. Takes pride in their competence. Can be argumentative and bossy but can equally be generous and responsive. The chuld is behinning to see things from another child point of view but still has trouble understanding the feelings of others. The chuld may be experiencing sudden dramatic emotional changes associated with puberty(especially girls eho experiance puberty earlier than boys). The chuld tends to be particularly sensitive to critism. Prefers to spend leisure time with friends and continues to participate in small grouos of the same sex but is acutely awars of the opposite sex. The child succumbs to peer pressure more readily and wants to talk, dress and act just like friends.12-19years: the young person may become self-conscious or worried about physical changes(too fat too thin) the young person develops a sexual identity: self labelling as gay or lesbian tends to occur around the age of 15 for boys and 15 and a half for girls, although first disclosure dies not normally take place until after the age of 16 and a half for both sexes. The young person often feels misunderstood. The young person can experiance wide emotional swings ( fluctuate between emotional peaks of excitement and depths of moodiness). The young person wants to be accepted and liked. The young person tends to identify more with friends and begins to seperate from parents, they are less dependant of family for affection and emoyional support.
