Step 1: How was the Gold Rush significant to population and economic growth of California?
Step 2: The California Gold Rush is historically significant in the time period of the late 1840s because it gave a population boost and tremendous economic growth. According to various sources as “California had recently broke apart from Mexico and set up a military, quickly followed by a lawful government.” This detail shows that the gold rush led to the quick development of California. Some sources say, “California was also valuable to the U.S. because it solidified the US claim to the entire middle of the North American continent”. This statement is proven correct because as of now the highest population in the U.S. is California with 37,253,956 people according to www.ipl.org. It was vital in their time period because it enhanced the idea of manifest destiny. Manifest destiny is the concept that “it is your God given right to expand from east to west”, said John O’ Sullivan. The gold rush also led to the admission of California into the Union and the capturing of other states. These states include New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, etc. Manifest destiny help justify the right of the gold rush and the gold rush concealed the U.S. power in North America. In my opinion there are modifications that needed to be brought upon the gold rush. This modification would have to be the Indenture Act, which gave the wrongfully power for white males to overthrow Native Americans.
