Calisthenics vs. Weight Training
Signor Voarino wrote the book A Treatise on Calisthenic Exercises where he expressed a very important thought that exercises help to preserve health and that is why physicians always recommend people to do physical exercises, because inaction leads to melancholy and depression (Voarino, 1827).
In my work I am going to explore advantages of calisthenics in comparison with weight training. Calisthenics and weight lifting are forms of strength training which help to develop better stamina, healthier bones, and of course, stronger muscles (Hill, 2011). The difference between these two types of workouts is that calisthenics is a combination of different exercises which use only person’s body’s weight and body’s resistance as an equipment (3fatchicks.com, 2009). Weight training is another form of exercises, which requires the use of weighted equipment or resistance machines (3fatchicks.com, 2009) and increases muscle size (3fatchicks.com, 2009).
I want to turn my attention to calisthenics. It is related to gymnastics and there are two types of calisthenics exercises, these are: aerobic and anaerobic exercises. Jogging, swimming, walking, long distance running and mild dancing belong to aerobic exercises. Anaerobic exercises include rope climbing; this kind of activity a person can endure for a short period of time unlike aerobic exercises, which can be endured for a long period of time (lifestyle.iloveindia.com).
Both calisthenics and weight lifting have their benefits and drawbacks. I am going to compare calisthenics with weight lifting and say why calisthenics is better than weight training. First of all, I would like to say that even bodybuilders and athletes do calisthenics exercises as a warming up before weight lifting and as a part of workout routine (3fatchicks.com, 2009). Secondly, to better show the advantages of calisthenics versus weight
