Even though tension continuously arises in Campbell and Oscars relationship, they are more similar than they know because of their constant need to be in control. In a way Oscar has learned everything he knows about keeping control from Campbell, from making his own messages, to lying to people for his own benefit or his client’s protection. Bachorz shows the similarity of control when Oscar says “I’ve made plenty of messages for myself (Bachorz 41),” and he mentions “My first was about Winston...Dad wanted me to forget (Bachorz 41).” Him and his father have both made messages to help them control their relationships with other people, and forces them to forget their pasts.
