He lived in Capernaum, but was originally from Bethsaida. Both of these places were significant to several Biblical accounts and were each located along the Sea of Galilee. Capernaum was also the home of the apostles James, Andrew (Peter’s brother), John, and Matthew. Peter along with James and John were fishing buddies. This was not something done as a hobby. In Matthew 14:28-30, Peter would walk on the water, in the middle of a storm, to Jesus, but then took his eyes off of Him and started to sink. Peter was also brash in his choice to admonish Jesus in Matthew 16. Jesus was foretelling the death which awaited him of which Peter was not thrilled with (Matthew 16:21).
