Hope and Salvation

INTRODUCTION

I have chosen to discuss Hope, and Salvation. These two I believe go hand in hand with each other. You cannot have one without the other. These both fall into other aspects as a Christian as well, but as I read through the book Core Christianity and go through this course, I have learning more about hope and my salvation.

PART ONE
HOPE! What is hope? The Webster’s Dictionary says that hope is, “desire accompanied by expectation of or belief in fulfillment” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hope)
As a Christian, and growing up in a Christian home, you always hear the pastor preach about
Hope. “There is hope in Christ, believe in Him and He will give you hope in your time of trail, in your time of need.” So, naturally I have grown up believing that hope is just something that we just have or need when we are in a time of trouble. How wrong this is! Hope! Hope is just simply

Jesus Christ himself! He is the one that hope is placed in. “The one in whom hope is placed is

sometimes called elpis. Elpis is a collective hope in the body of Christ. Christ as the chief

Shepherd expresses the hope that his own will together behold his glory.” (Elwell, pg. 577)

Elmer Towns, in the preface to his book Core Christianity says, “Christianity is an Ultimate

Hope”. (Townes, Core Christianity, Preface xiii) I believe this with 100 % of my heart.

This hope is brought to us in many aspects! Through our salvation, relationship with Christ,

Faith, it is brought to us throughout the Bible and through Christ Himself.

PART 2

As I read through the book Core Christianty by Elmer Towns, it brings light that Hope is brought

to us in all and every areas as a Christian. One is through our Salvation. What does Salvation

mean? “Deliverance from the power and effects of sin” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/salvation)

“Those who believe in Jesus Christ make the exclusive claim that

In the Chapter 1 entitled “Longing and Hope”, Plantinga discusses the longings of the human spirit. There is a desire in all of us to seek out more. Our longings and desires cannot be met on our own but through God. Plantinga also discusses the human desire for hope, not just for ourselves, but for the future of others. Faith in Jesus Chris is required for true hope. “Biblical hope – the real thing – must have faith on one side of it and love on the other.…

Have you ever been hopeful, even when it seemed your hope was hopeless? Hope is something all humans share whether it be for a better life or for a different path. All humans have something that resembles hope. It almost seems that humans love to tell others how hope has helped them survive troubling times. For centuries mankind has been drawn to literature about the underdog overcoming odds because we as a species enjoy seeing the little guys win. Three pieces of literature in particular come to mind when speaking of hope and how it fills mankind with a fight for survival. The books, Night by Eliezer Wiesel, The Glass Castle, By Jeannette Walls, and Red Rising, by Pierce Brown all feature main characters believing in themselves and…

But what if, the hope we hold has gone and it seems we are forgotten by our hope for almost a day, a month, and or a year? Would you still hold and believe in your trusted hope? Perhaps, the best way to recognize the importance of hope is to imagine a world without it. If there was no hope for humanity, love, peace, recovery or the future, there would be a diminutive incentive to even get up in the morning. Charities and movements are built on hope for change. Furthermore, if William Shakespeare’s characters, Romeo and Juliet, had possessed a stronger sense of hope, they may not have felt…
