INTRODUCTION
I have chosen to discuss Hope, and Salvation. These two I believe go hand in hand with each other. You cannot have one without the other. These both fall into other aspects as a Christian as well, but as I read through the book Core Christianity and go through this course, I have learning more about hope and my salvation.
PART ONE
HOPE! What is hope? The Webster’s Dictionary says that hope is, “desire accompanied by expectation of or belief in fulfillment” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hope)
As a Christian, and growing up in a Christian home, you always hear the pastor preach about
Hope. “There is hope in Christ, believe in Him and He will give you hope in your time of trail, in your time of need.” So, naturally I have grown up believing that hope is just something that we just have or need when we are in a time of trouble. How wrong this is! Hope! Hope is just simply
Jesus Christ himself! He is the one that hope is placed in. “The one in whom hope is placed is
sometimes called elpis. Elpis is a collective hope in the body of Christ. Christ as the chief
Shepherd expresses the hope that his own will together behold his glory.” (Elwell, pg. 577)
Elmer Towns, in the preface to his book Core Christianity says, “Christianity is an Ultimate
Hope”. (Townes, Core Christianity, Preface xiii) I believe this with 100 % of my heart.
This hope is brought to us in many aspects! Through our salvation, relationship with Christ,
Faith, it is brought to us throughout the Bible and through Christ Himself.
PART 2
As I read through the book Core Christianty by Elmer Towns, it brings light that Hope is brought
to us in all and every areas as a Christian. One is through our Salvation. What does Salvation
mean? “Deliverance from the power and effects of sin” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/salvation)
“Those who believe in Jesus Christ make the exclusive claim that
