Hello ladies and gentlemen I am here today to talk about why I feel capital punishment should be reinstated in the UK. I have a dream to punish offenders for some of the heinous crimes they do. I have a dream to give justice to victims of horrifying crimes. I have a dream to keep our society free from such offenders. I have a dream to reinstate the death penalty. Now let’s start the speech with a simple question. Who thinks capital punishment should be reinstated in the UK? Whoever believes it is wrong you will be compelled to change your mind after this speech and it shocking revelations.
Capital punishment is currently one of the most, if not the most, severe consequence for criminals. However this form of punishment is only used for the most serious crimes such as murder, rape or homicide. Due to this the crime rates of murder, rape and homicide are drastically less in countries that still use the death penalty. Therefore capital punishment can help make the UK free, to some extent, from such detestable crimes.
Many more economically developed countries such as USA, United States of America, still use capital punishment to date. A vast population of the people present here today may feel that USA using the death penalty is not acceptable. However I personally feel that capital punishment acts as a deterrent on the public and discourages them to commit such crimes from quite a young age. This leads to a more secure upbringing of the child and due to this the child is less likely to commit a serious crime compared to a child who knows that there is no harsh consequences involved. It also discourages adults who are likely to commit a crime since they now know that it will only lead to their own death. Results show 3,100 out of 100,000 people are involved in violent crimes in the UK whereas in USA only 380 out of 100,000 people are involved in violent crimes. That's about 8 times more! This further proves that capital punishment is acting as a deterrent in such cases do you not feel the same? Furthermore according to the UK government, there were 1.94 million violent crimes in the UK during 2011. However according to the FBI, there were 1.2 million violent crimes committed in the US during 2011. Even though the population of USA which is 319.3 million is 5 times higher than UK's which is at an estimated 62.3 million. Surely there is some sort of link between the capital punishment which is still used in USA and the UK. Do you not agree?
The death penalty is also justified as it utilizes the concept 'an eye for an eye'. Several people may feel an eye for an eye is not a good concept to follow. One such man was Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi stated 'An eye for an eye ends up making the whole world blind'. However even though this is correct to some extent it is not entirely true. As if you do not stop a person from committing such outrageous crimes then the public will feel insecure and others may be motivated since there is no way of punishing such offenders. So this will lead to the whole world being blind anyway as these malefactors will continue to commit these unacceptable, unpardonable and unacceptable crime leading to mass murders, rapes and homicides.
Finally my last point is that I would like to make UK a safe and enjoyable place for the whole society by eliminating murders and rapist. Wouldn't you like to feel safe going back to home? Wouldn't you like to feel safe being alone? Wouldn't you like to feel safe from criminals who commit the most notorious crimes? Wouldn't you like to have a safe home? Well I hope the answer to these questions is a yes and there is only one way of making it a reality. That method is reinstating capital punishment.
Thank you for listening to my speech on capital punishment being reinstated in the UK. I hope you understand my passion towards the reinstatement of capital punishment and why its benefits easily outweigh the consequences.

The death penalty is set in place to punish individuals for the most violent crimes. Its purpose to keep the death penalty legal was to deter people from doing these horrible crimes. That attempt has failed terribly. According to a report conducted by the National Research Council, it was said that we could not depend on the death penalty to deter the effect of murder rates. “Claiming that the death penalty has a deterrent effect on murder rates are fundamentally flawed and should not be used when making policy decisions” (Radelet & Locock, 2012).…

That was then and this is now; the times have changed and so have people’s views, are likely the next points those opposed will make. Have they really changed though? According to an October, 2009 Gallup Crime Survey, “65% of Americans continue to support the use of the death penalty for persons convicted of murder, while 31% oppose it” (Newport, 2009). The simple fact that America is a democratic republic makes any topic, in which a two-thirds majority favor said topic, substantial. As mentioned above, the fact that capital punishment can guarantee a criminal will not commit vicious crime in the future, leads Americans continually to remain in favor of it.…

Australian society has ultimately rejected the idea of the practice of capital punishment making a return into the Australian law books. However, events such as the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the Bali bombings have ensured that the spotlight once again shines on the controversial subject. I am in favour of the practice returning to Australia for heinous crimes such as murder, child molestation, serial rapists, and people who commit acts of animal cruelty. This is because:…

Capital punishment has been around for thousands of years and to this day we still use some of the forms. It has been heavily reformed so that is a quick, humane, and effective way of execution. A person has to do a horrendous crime such as murder, or kidnapping where the victim dies for the death penalty to be an option when other alternatives such as life in prison with or without the possibility of parole are not sufficient. Even though many do not agree there are a numerous amount of people that do not agree with capital punishment and it may continue to change, it is a necessity for this…

Capital punishment is the Permissible authorisation of executing someone who has committed an atrocious, unforgiveable and inhumane crime. The death penalty was removed from Great Britain in 1964-1965, however some countries, for example; China, Iran, North Korea and some states in the USA, still practice the use of the death penalty. Acts such as; genocide and general murders commonly result in the criminal offender being placed on death row. Some legal execution methods would be: Lethal injection or electric chair. In my opinion I believe the death penalty is an illogical, unreasonable and an absurd punishing system, and shouldn’t be re introduced into the UK. I am going to explain why below.…

The death penalty is something that has many countries in the world divided. In my opinion, I believe that the death penalty should be legal throughout the country. There are many reasons as to why the death penalty should be legalized in the country including retribution, deterrence, and morality. Also, because opposing arguments do not hold up, I will discredit the ideas that the death penalty is not constitutional, irreversible mistakes are made, and that race and income will face disproportionality.…

There are many questions that can be asked concerning this issue. Some are: Does it affect your religion? Do you believe it deters crime? Is the cost of the death penalty worth it? Is it humane? Noted in interviewing on these questions, most of the people say that the death penalty does not deter crime, that it is against their religion, it is a humane way to kill people, and that the cost is not worth it. Imagine that the European convention of human rights weren’t designed, written, amended and supplemented with Article 2, defending a human’s right to life and protocols 6 and 13 that abolishes the death penalty. Imagine bringing back the death penalty to the UK was a serious debate in the way that the UK would be able to bring back Capital punishment (CP) without having to break any legal binding documents like the treaties. In my very humble opinion, there aren’t any solid arguments for the death penalty that can’t be convincingly countered. The idea that government should take a life seems barbaric. Desmond TuTu said “Taking a life for a life isn’t Justice, it’s revenge”. There have been popular key talking points surrounding the CP debate; Costs to the government, morality, deterrence. I wish to discuss these same points with hopefully a fresh view.…

Capital punishment is the lawful infliction of death as a punishment and since ancient times it has been used for a wide variety of offences. Although there are some countries that have abolished death penalty from their law, there are still many which still practice the act of killing a person for crime. Capital punishment is prevalent in the US, Asian and Middle Eastern countries. Crimes that carry the death penalty vary greatly worldwide from treason and murder to theft. Some of the ways of executing criminals are hanging, shooting, electrocution and giving lethal injections. However, many cases that come before the court very often force public reflection on the purpose of the death penalty. While some think that death penalty is necessary for those who have committed a terrible crime, there are others who consider it as an immoral act that goes against the values of humanity.…
