European social democracy. Governments like this nationalize essential industries like railroads, airlines, TV and telephone networks, energy industries, banking, medical care, etc. The less essential industries are strictly regulated by the government still. Britain, Italy, France, and Spain are some countries that have this lesser extreme socialistic government. The next type socialism is worker-management socialism. In this level, the government literally owns every business, but the workers get to decide what and how much to produce. Also, they are payed extra for boosting efficiency and productivity. Yugoslavia is an example of a country like this. Next is centralized socialism. In the last level, worker-management socialism, the workers still got to decide what and how much to produce of something. However, in centralized socialism the government owns and decides everything. Karl Marx came up with this type of socialism, as he wanted to destroy capitalistic ideas. The Soviet Union put this idea to work only to see it fail. It is an unrealistic idea. All workers received the same pay in their industry, completely destroying incentive. If you went the extra mile and did more than you had to, you would still get payed the same. Efficiency was at an all time low in the Soviet Union. The last and most extreme type of socialism is communism. No country has ever actually had communism even though we associate it with the Soviet Union. In this system, people are supposed to care about the general welfare of everyone else and not themselves. Since everyone else cares about each other (or they are supposed to), there is no need for government. No one is seeking for profit. It is even more unrealistic than the last system. Socialism abolishes freedom and private ownership. It causes poverty, because there is no incentive to be productive and efficient. People who support this are either not the brightest, or they are just ignorant. As my mom said, “The only way to have equality is to have equal poverty.” Capitalism is the complete opposite of socialism.
It encourages economic competition and provides incentive for productivity and efficiency. The most extreme or radical system of capitalism is radical capitalism. Not all capitalistic systems work either, and this is an example of one. There are no regulations over people making the government useless. That leads to there not even being a government, which is also called anarchy. Classic liberal capitalism is the next the level. Originally, this is what the United States had. The government does exist but is limited. People enjoy many economic freedoms and liberties. Also, people are held accountable for their economic decisions. Their success or failure is dependent upon their efficiency. That is what I call incentive. Adam Smith in his book The Wealth of Nations described a capitalistic system like this. He thought that government should be limited to national defense, providing and enforcing law and order, and other necessary public tasks like education and public transportation. The last level of capitalism is state capitalism. This is what the United Sates has now. It is the closest capitalistic system to socialism. Most businesses are privately owned by citizens, but the government intervenes in economic decisions. When the government starts intervening more and more, that is when it becomes socialism. Capitalism offers a peaceful means of exchange. People can buy, sell, and trade at their own free will. That is …show more content…
called a free market system, which defines capitalism. It encourages productivity with incentives. People are rewarded for their hard work, and it makes a lot of sense to me. Now, interventionism is considered by some to be an alternative to capitalism and socialism, but really it is one or the other.
Interventionism allows the government to intervene with the free market whenever it chooses. This only causes problems. It sounds a lot like state capitalism. What defines it as either capitalistic or socialistic is how much the government intervenes. State capitalism is only capitalistic if the government doesn't keep intervening all the time. If the government does, it is socialism. The United States is on the verge of becoming socialistic, and this next election could determine which way it goes. Interventionism is either capitalism or socialism depending on the amount of government intervention. Normally, it is probably
socialism. At the end of the day, capitalism wins for me. Not only is it more efficient, but it is also more Biblical. It recognizes man's sinful nature in that it has a government to keep things in line, but it also lets us live out the natural freedoms that God gives us. God commands us to perform the cultural mandate. We cannot do that if the government controls everything like in socialism. In addition, capitalism acknowledges the Ten Commandments. Capitalism encourages us not to lie, steal, or covet. It pushes us to work hard and earn things.
