Why is this important? Because the number ‘20’ typed randomly in a cell may mean the world to you today, but may mean nothing to you or anyone else in a few months if it’s not labeled.
Not labeling your cells violates the Clarity Pillar in flexcoclar
• In cell B8, title a subsection, in the regular font size of your model, by entering “Quantity of Ingredients”
• Make this title bold by using Ctrl-B
• You will probably realize that the label “Quantity of Ingredients” extends into the next column.
• Automatically re-size column A to fit the label ‘Quantity of Ingredients’ by typing Alt-O-C-A
This automatically adjusts the column size to fit the contents of that particular cell, no matter the …show more content…
Keep your labels concise yet descriptive. That way when you go Alt-O-C-A, you don’t have oversized columns.
• Starting from cell B9, and moving downwards one cell at a time, enter the following labels; Oil:litres; Tomatoes:baskets; Rice:bags; Pepper:bags; Fish:kilos; Cow-leg:kilos; Beans: bags; Spaghetti:boxes;
• Leave a space and in cell B18, create a section title “Unit Cost of Ingredients”.
• At B18, hit Ctrl-B to make the section title bold
• Starting from cell B19, and moving downwards, enter the following labels; Oil:Px/litre; Tomatoes: Px/basket; Rice:Px/bag; Pepper: Px/bag; Fish:Px/kilo; Cow-leg: Px/kilo; Beans: Px/bag; Spaghetti: Px/box; where the Px is shorthand for Price and the general format we are using is Price per unit (Px/unit)
Your model should look something like this:
Now it’s time to populate our …show more content…
This is an instruction to Excel to use all the contents (formulas, formats, comments, etc) of the first selected range of cells (B8:B15) to populate the additional corresponding cells in the selected range from columns C to M
This instruction should instantly populate all the highlighted range with the initial assumptions you entered in cell C9:C16
Your model should look like this:
Sidebar: Ctrl-Shift-Arrow Key selects all continuous block of cells in the direction of the arrow key. You could still achieve the same thing by using Shift-Arrow Key. In this instance though, you would have had to tap on the down arrow key 7 times to expand the range of the selection downwards. Try this.
Now we need to complete the section for the unit cost of the ingredients
• Enter the corresponding unit prices of each ingredient from cells C19:C26,
• Select that entire range by moving the cell highlighter to cell C19 and using the Ctrl-Shift-Down Arrow Key combination
• Expand the selection to reach Dec-15 using Shift-Right Arrow Key and tapping the arrow key a few times while holding down the Shift
