As I was attending my first career fair, I intended to observe the student and recruiter’s interactions. This helped me understand the basics of how to approach a recruiter. I got a great idea of how you should approach a recruiter at a Career Fair; I feel I meet my objective, and understood what was needed when approaching them for a potential job offer or other information. My confidence level before attending the career fair was mediocre.
I know I posses the personal skills businesses are looking for, but wasn’t completely sure how everything was going to play out. As time got a little closer, I was nervous on how to start a meaningful conversation with the recruiter; starting off on the correct path for them to remember me is the biggest challenge, I believe. Eventually, after listening to others interact with the recruiters and doing a few interactions myself, I started to understand that its pretty straight forward. After attending my first Career Fair, I now feel more confident that when I originally stepped foot in the building, and had never seem anything like this
before.
The most important thing I learned from the Career Fair is confidence. If you don’t have confidence in yourself, how can a business have confidence in you to do the job? They can’t. Believe in yourself and your ability and everything will go smoothly.
To be prepared for my next career, I will take the same approach and research the main companies that I want to engage with. This gives you the edge over other job offers, and lets the company know that you care about working with their business. Knowing what their company does also gives you more confidence going toward being recruited, because you will have a knowledgeable background on what they are discussing before they even start talking about their business and the opportunities.
