Executive A’s style of leadership is most closely related to that of a level 5 leader. Level 5 leaders blend the paradoxical combination of deep personal humility with intense personal will (Collins, 2001). In the situation given for this scenario it seems apparent that executive A has many of the traits that would be used to describe a level 5 leader. Executive A is described as driven, highly ambitious and solely focused on the success of the company; these are all traits of a level 5 leader. These types of leaders are routinely described as showing great humility; this trait is evident in executive A’s reluctance to take recognition for the company’s achievements while routinely crediting other management in the organization. Playing into the idea of humility, this also seems apparent in the way that executive A is quick to accept accountability for errors. The fact that executive A was able to take this companies and its stock from mediocrity to greatness and actually keep it there is one of the most recognizable trademarks of a level 5 leader.…

As evident from Spencer’s case, this leadership model empowers business leaders to not only inspire their employees but also guide the company towards its vision and goals. According to Fikru (2014) for instance, being close to junior employees has made Spencer a good communicator who understands the business from different perspectives. Putting trust in people creates value for them and they become more free and willing to contribute, in their own small capacities towards realization of the company’s objectives (Longenecker, 2014). Apparently, meeting corporate goals greatly depends on how well a leader tells his juniors where they are going, why they are going and how they are going to get there, a skill that Spencer has perfected over…

“Rose Kennedy was a devout Catholic, and Bobby absorbed her religious intensity. He made his first communion when he was 7, and went on to become an altar boy and attend a school run by Benedictine monks. Bobby grew up with a strong sense of right and wrong, good and evil. Like his brothers, he was toughened by the religious demands of his father, but he was disguised, as well, a gentler nature. Bobby, a friend said, was “truly in touch with his emotions.” (PBS transcript, 1964).…

I interviewed Becky Hendrix, Executive Director for Professional Care Services. I recently had the honor of interviewing someone in our community who has had more than twenty years of leadership experience in our community. The interview ended up taking much longer than I expected because I was so influenced by what she had to say, I did not want to miss anything. Mrs. Becky Hendrix started her career as a CPA back in the 80 's for the World Color Press. Her leadership abilities were quickly realized, and she was promoted to head CPA. From there she moved on to the Professional Care Service where she remained for fifteen years serving as a CPA, and finally working her way up to the Executive Director. Becky was in charge of over 187 employees. My conversation with Becky took a direction that I did not expect. She attributes her success to the leadership traits that she has learned over the years, and quoted many of the very ideas and theories almost verbatim from our class lecture. That was an incredible experience to witness firsthand how these traits become behaviors and practices.…

Jim Collins talks about a lot of characteristics, values and traits needed in order to turn a company from a good one to a great one. What is rather surprising is how he gives a refreshing and actually quite unorthodox perspective on the topic. The things that he points out are what most would think the opposite of some of the values being taught in school.…

Normative dimensions of leadership theory looks at the big picture of the organization to work out challenges and find solutions to problems. According to Harvey (2001) The normative leadership model approach is a caring type of leadership where the leader has vision and implements ideas, arguing that a caring type of leadership is actually good for profits in a capitalistic society (Harvey, 2002). Normative leaders are visionaries who inspire followers to contribute to the successful completion of strategic goals (Rigsby & Greco, 2003). This paper reviews the leadership style of DeBorah Thigpen, President of Thigpen and Associates, a small public relations and marketing communication consulting agency. Goodnight, CEO of SAS, has been compared to several character theories which determined what made him into a successful manager. According to the Trait Theory (SAS HR system, 2015), Goodnight possessed all the qualities of a good leader; analytical skills, ability to motivate people, sociability, communication skill, ability to listen, aggressiveness, team building expertise and many other positive skills. Under behavioral theories, Mr. Goodnight displays both areas of consideration that are used to measure a good leader. That is, he is highly employee-oriented, a fact he demonstrates by having constant interaction with his employees and customers. He is also a person who is extremely considerate, as seen by the added perks and benefits he has provided for his employees. According to Fielder’s Contingency model, “leadership effectiveness is as a result of interaction between the style of the leader and the characteristics of the environment in which the leader works” (SAS HR system, 2015). Mr. Goodnight ensured that his employees are always comfortable in and out of the workplace. Goodnight’s employee-centered, innovative way of providing for his employees assures a great work environment and opportunities for high job satisfaction…
