Joyce Carol Oates wrote a short story called “where are you going, where have you been?” One of the main character in the short story is a fifteen year old girl whose name is Connie. Connie was self-absorbed by her beauty, and would not listen when her mom try to council her. She rejects the role of daughter to develop her sexual persona, which increase when she is away from her family and home. Connie concerns were to become a young adult, she hangs out with friends, and flirts with boys and explores her sexuality. Connie believe that the attention of boys or even men made her feel good about herself. She has a unique way of dressing and walking making her very attractive. Arnold came to Connie home in a gold convertible. Although his car was great I get the feeling that he was strange in the way he talked, as if he was singing. Even the way he was dressed was weird, his shoes he could hardly walk in because he stumbled and wobbles when he walked.
