Carolyn Jones, a recent accounting graduate, has found herself in a predicament where she needs to make decisions that could greatly impact her for the rest of her life. Carolyn wants to take the Uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Exam, but there is only one superior CPA exam preparation company, “Becker Professional Education”, and they charge near 2,000 dollars more than rival companies. Carolyn will need to make her decision soon, but faces many determining factors first. One of Carolyn’s classmates decided to buy Becker’s materials from an online auction and they charged 4 times less. Carolyn discovered that purchasing Becker’s materials from a third-party, was prohibited because of the violation of copyright laws. This is unethical because it’s illegal! Carolyn also needs to realize that this is not the truthful thing to do and would be doing damage to her
government, the Uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam company, and companies looking to hire candidates that are CPA certified. U.S. government would be effected if Carolyn were to copyright the items sold by exam preparation vendors is, because the government would have to file reports and go into an investigation when it was to be presented to them. This would require federal funding and eventually trickle down to the tax payers. The Uniform CPA exam company would be impacted by how Carolyn studied. If she were pass, then they would make less money because she would not need to take the exam again. However, if she were to fail, then the CPA exam company would more money if she retook the test. She also impacts the companies looking to hire CPA certified candidates. The more people who study properly, then the likelihood of more CPA certifications would be given out. This would then offer companies and organizations looking for these candidates to have more options and the candidates to have more
