Marilyn is a supervisor at a textile plant and has received offers for interview with the new company as a supervisor. 1. What is Marilyn’s responsibility to her present employer regarding her knowledge that several employees are planning to seek positions with the new company?
As a supervisor, Marilyn is responsible to report any problems with the employees therefor if any problems with customer or employee arise she should immediately report the issue. She should inform the upper management that employees are seeking positions with the new company. This will help the company to be more prepared when their employees put in their resignation letters. This might also give company an option to consider higher pay rates and better benefits to keep their current employees.
2. How should Marilyn reply to the recruiter who is asking her to come in for an interview? Does this constitute an ethical decision for her?
It does constitute an ethical decision for her. She firstly needs to decide if working for this new company is worth leaving a company that she is working with and which depends on her. In my opinion taking on an interview and considering her options is unethical however she should be honest with her current company about the interview offer.
3. Is it ethical for one company to receive funds to move into an area when other companies struggle to keep jobs from going offshore or from being lost to automation?
