In the event of the Chicago Tylenol Murders several lives were taken by mysterious cyanide-laced Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules in different Chicago areas. It all started when 12 year old Mary Kellerman woke up feeling sick, like normal her parents kept her home from school and gave her Tylenol to ease the pain. Instead of easing her pain she ended up dead on the floor of her bathroom, her father found her. That same day in a totally different area of Chicago, a 27 year old man by the name of Adam Janus had also stayed home sick. A couple of hours before he died he went to pick his children up and some tylenol from his local drug store to ease his pain as well, but like Mary he to died. I came to that conclusion because all of the pill bottles were bought in different locations and came from different factories. The pills were found to be tampered with after they left their factories, so they were either contaminated during the transition from the factory to the drug store or when they were already at the stores. Along with those two theories, I feel like no matter what there had to be at least one person that worked in the drugstores that was in on the plan. With perpetrators working within the locations they had easier access to the unprotected pills and could lace them without getting caught, they also were able to strategically place the pills where they needed to be.
Before the murders occurred companies did not take the proper precaution of protecting their products. The Chicago Tylenol murders left a measurable impact on the way medicinal companies handle their safety standards. Companies began to place safety and tamper proof seals on their product to ensure its safety and
