Case Study Of French And Raven's Bases Of Power
The task for this weeks assisngment is to study and analyze French and Raven’s bases of power and to associate the findings of the study with a case analysis. I choose to compare and analyze the case of :His Team Gets the Best Assisgnments. In order for any organization to operate and function properly, the goals and the missison of the organization must be executed.
According to Northousse the process of leadership is for individuals to be influenced to achieve the goals and commitments of the organization (Northouse, 2016). In my observation of the case study I came to my conclusion knowing that a leader must exert power, but an effective leader must also understand the extent, goals, and remifications of power (Northouse, 2016). When the department is assisigned contracts and accounts Ms. Peters allocate the contracts to the various group in her division. Jack is the leader of one such division. Jacks group has proven to be quit superior than the other 3 divisions. In terms of the quality of work produce. Jacks’ team also have no problem putting in the extra time and effort to complete assignments. Julies’ concern is that Ms. Peter seems to favor and allocate assignments to the other divisions. Juli has also observed that the other teams many times are given or assigned additional writers and directors, which help boost the result and quality of the assignments. Juli feels that Ms. Peters do not value the contribution of her team. Juli feels that she justified in her reaction as her team quality of work is indisputable. The 4th group is lead by Sarah. Sara dose not have any problem or concerns with the number or types of case assignments given to her division. Sarah seems to like for her group to stay up under the radar and to do the bar minimum of work, just enough to maintain employment .Sarah’s division do not desire the big advertising account assignemnts. The larger and more meaningful account require due diligence and long work hours and overtime. According to French and Raven’s leadership theory, there are 5 types of social power rewards used by leaders. The five types of leadership studied by French and Raven are: Reward, Legitimate, Cooercive, Expert, and Referent. Ms. Peters used the French and Raven theory approach when giving out accounts to her various divisions. Under French and Raven,the qualifications of the Rewards theory is
