Case Study One
1) If you were one of the board members, how would you have initially voted for the proposal? What would your vote be after the recess in the meeting? Why?
At first hand, I would be one of the ten board members that voted for the development of the plant. After reviewing the new point given at the recess, I would surely disagree with the use of the new plant. That would have a great impact in the number of many lives, and overall with a city that had experience a huge loss when the plant first closed. I believe that companies should always consider the community before taking decisions, because that could lead to immeasurable issues for those involved, as that also would impact the company’s image. Even though consumers want the lower price, there will be a part of them that will consider how socially the company works, and over the long run, that can cause a great damage to the company sales. 2) Should the Byte executives tell the town administrators and potential employees that this is a temporary plant, to run for three years?
That would be the most reasonable thing to do. I imagine, that given those circumstances, the positions available would attract the people that live closer to the plant, instead of bringing people from all over the region. Even thought that might hurt the project overall, that would create a better image for the company, as they really care for its employees and community. 3) What impact does a plant closing have on a small town like Plainville? What impact does the closing have on the employees?
As mentioned in the case, if the plant would close without prior knowledge that could lead to a possible bankruptcy. With people leaving Plainville, house prices would be greatly impacted, as many other credits provided to the company employees might not be paid. Employees could have their lives completed impacted by that, given that most of them would have to relocate to Plainville. Moving back, sometimes is not possible, what

Coronary artery disease is one of the most prominent forms of heart disease. It occurs when the coronary arteries that supply the heart blood become narrowed, and eventually occluded. This narrowing typically takes place because of plaque build up due to cholesterol and other fatty substances being ingested, also called atherosclerosis. This thickening of the artery wall can take many years, eventually completely inhibiting blood flow. Because the blood flow has stopped, little oxygen gets to the heart, and the myocardial cells therefore die. This is when a heart attack ensues, also called a myocardial infarction.…

Marian suffered from a heat stroke causing her body to experience hyperthermia. Marian body went through the process of homeostasis from experiencing hyperthermia. “Homeostasis is a state of body equilibrium or stable internal environment of the body.”(Marieb 8) Homeostasis protects the body by allowing it to adapt to the environment. Marian homeostasis tried to cool the body but failed. Though Marian was lucky her daughter found her in time. When a heat stroke occurs the body’s homeostasis shuts down where the temperature can reach high enough to cause brain damage to where you die. Heat strokes can cause damage internally well as externally. Hyperthermia causes a positive feedback mechanism within the body. “A positive feedback mechanism is a feedback that tends to cause the level of variable to change in the same direction as an initial change.”( Marieb 9) When the body stimulus rises the hypothalamus’s thermoreceptors start to work as the body’s thermostat. The thermoreceptors send messages allowing the hypothalamus to make temperature changes in the core. When the core starts to raise the heat loss mechanism starts one or two things: “dilation of cutaneous blood vessels or enhanced sweating.”(Marieb 833) “Dilation of cutaneous blood vessels is where the vessels swell with warm blood, heat is lost from the radiation, conduction, and convection” (Marieb 833) Some symptoms for a heat stroke are “throbbing headache, dizziness and light-headedness, lack of sweating despite the heat, red hot skin, muscle weakness or cramps, nausea and vomiting, rapid heartbeat, which may either strong or weak, rapid shallow breathing, behavioral changes such as confusion, disorientation or staggering, seizures, and unconsciousness.”( http://firstaid.webmd.com/heat-stroke-symptoms-and-treatment)…

In particular, G.M. was considering ending its operations in the city of Detroit. However, if the corporation did leave, unemployment rates would rise even more, causing the city to lose millions of dollars in real estate and income tax revenues. Thus the city took action to prevent this from happening. To remain in Detroit, G.M. would need a large swath of undeveloped land to make a suitable plant site. There is no undeveloped land in Detroit, leaving the government officials to use the power of eminent domain to evict residents from their homes to build the plant. Eminent domain allows for the government to compensate residents for their land if used for a public purpose. However, the issue in this case is whether or not it is constitutional to do this if the land would be taken by the government to then be given to a private entity in order to bolster the…
