The Dakota Access Pipeline is a $3.7 billion, 1,200 mile long underground oil pipeline project. If the pipeline is completed, it will transport approximately 470,000 barrels of crude oil across four states, from North Dakota to Illinois. It would provide a more efficient and cost-effective way of transporting the oil, as opposed to freighting the barrels by train. The bulk of the project has already been completed, however approval for the completion of the area of the pipeline nearest the Standing Rock Sioux reservation is still pending.
