Overview
This Applied Learning Project (ALP) will review two different health care delivery systems within my local community that offer similar services. I have chosen the Veterans Affair Facility and the Health South Rehabilitation Hospital, both are located in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Both facilities offer similar rehabilitation services, physical rehabilitation and mental rehabilitation. This ALP will analyze how both of the systems work and discuss types of improvements that can be made to these systems. The

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Smith is a 80-bed rehabilitation hospital that provides a higher level of comprehensive rehabilitation services. Health South provides a wide range of physical therapy services, a vast network of highly skilled, independent private practice physicians, therapists and nurses, and the most innovative equipment and technology ensuring that all patients have access to the highest quality care. Its facility is lead by a CEO which breaks down to a Medical Director and a Nursing Director. They report that this system works very well for them. The physicians, therapy and pharmacy departments are managed by the Medical Director and all have department managers. The Director of Nursing guides the nursing and aide staff and observes all duties carried out by this staffing unit. A small marketing, billing and clerical staff stands alone and reports to the CEO. This 80 bed facility operates efficiently with this organization
