The health care organization I am affiliated with, Staten Island University hospital, is part of the North Shore –LIJ Health System. “The North Shore-LIJ Health System strives to improve the health of the communities it serves and is committed to providing the highest quality clinical care; educating the current and future generations of health care professionals; searching for new advances in medicine through the conduct of bio-medical research; promoting health education; and caring for the entire community regardless of the ability to pay” (North Shore LIJ health care, 2014). In 2007, as part of their commitment to quality clinical care, North Shore LIJ began implementing health information technology and electronic medical records in the hospital system. “ The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today it is subsidizing up to 85 percent of the cost of implementing and operating an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system in the offices of its more than 7,000 affiliated physicians in New York City and Long Island -- part of a…
An institution needs to measure input and output to effectively staff the facility. Input can be measured by patient arrivals and appointment requests (request for care). Output can be measured by patients treated, cost per case, quality and access. The physician organization also assists in providing excellent care by recruiting and retaining physicians necessary to provide this care. Physician supply should remain open to leave and come as the community demand raises and lowers. However, it is more effective to be strategic in planning the staffing needs. Too big leaves physicians underworked. Too small leaves physicians overworked. A medical staff plan should…
What are Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)? It is run by the Federal Government and driven by Medicare. “The FQHC benefit under the Medicare was added effective October 1, 1991” (CMS FQHC fact sheet, n.d.). It is to ensure that all Americans regardless if they can pay for medical services is offered the same care of an individual with paying health care insurance. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) opened Oct. 1, 2010, and is the United States ' first federal health care center that partners the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense into a single, fully integrated federal health care facility. The facilities mission statement is to fulfill President Lincoln’s promise, “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan,” by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s veterans. The FHCC runs on VA core Values and Characteristics. The core Values are integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence. The characteristics are trustworthy, accessible, quality,…
If the companies described in this case cannot fill all vacant seasonal jobs with workers under H-2B visas, what other options are available for filling the jobs. I would start with adjusting the pay rate for the jobs in question, raise the amount per hour paid, and the potential employee pool will grow. Make a benefit package available for the part time employees; this would be an attraction for job seekers that would not normally consider this type of temporary employment. Possibly consider making some of the positions a full time position in order to entice more potential employees.…
There are many factors fused together that affect the health of communities and individuals. Whether individuals are healthy or not, is determined by their environment and circumstances. These factors include where we live, the condition of our genetics, environment, our education and income level, and our relationships with family and friends all have considerable impacts on health, considered that the more widely known factors such as availability and use of health care services often have less of an influence( World Health Organization (2010).…
I really enjoyed reading your discussion board on the Wounded Warrior Project. The Wounded Warrior Project helps a lot of our military vets when they come home after serving their country in the military. Because a lot of times some vets can come back and not have a strong support structure waiting for them when they arrive. The organization not only helps the wounded veterans when they return but also to the family. You bring up some very good concepts that are important to the organization such as resource dependency, which is important because most of their funds are through private donations. And also having a cohesive board of directors and choosing proper board members.…

Community can be defined as a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage (Dictionary.com, 2015). Research will cover the audience in which the organizations wish to target, how they market to The target audience, the effectiveness, and what could be done differently to improve marketing strategies.…
There is a need to assist VA Hospitals around the nation. There has been a huge backlash from President Obama regarding the operations of the VA Hospitals. There have been several instances where veterans have died while waiting for their appointments at VA Hospitals. Also, public opinion regarding the operations of VA Hospitals and how useful they really are to veterans are being called into question. New programs aimed at assisting VA Hospitals with reducing the wait times of veterans as well as providing additional services would help build up the reputation of VA Hospitals as well as becoming a new source of revenue for hospitals. These programs will also increase public satisfaction with VA Hospitals as well as the local hospitals that are willing to be a part of the solution.…
The Department of Veteran Affairs objectives has always been the same, even as problems arise. In 2012, there were many reports that veterans are experiencing long extended wait times for medical services. There were allegations that veterans have died while waiting to be seen by physicians. As a result of these reports, Congress directed an audit to be conducted on the Veterans Affairs Health Care System. During the review, several discrepancies were identified in the area of medical scheduling. The reason thousands of veterans had been waiting for medical care was due to not properly being entered on an electronic waiting list. The audit also revealed that many appointment schedulers in the Health system had not received proper training. In correcting this issue, all schedulers were trained, and veterans were properly scheduled on the electronic list to receive care quickly. The scheduling discrepancy caused a backlog of an abundant number of…
First, we must look at the success the proposed system has had in other countries. The best way for us to gauge potential successes and failures is to look at the plan where it has been applied and practiced. According to frqasureinstitute.org “Specialist physicians surveyed across 12 specialties and 10 Canadian provinces report a total waiting time of 19.0 weeks between referral from a general practitioner and receipt of elective treatment. At 104 percent longer than it was in 1993, this is the longest total wait time recorded since the Fraser Institute began measuring wait times in Canada (Barua, Rovere & Skinner, 2011)”.…
The U.S Department Veteran’s Affairs (VA) provides a wide range of benefits for our service members, veterans and their families. Some of these benefits include but are not limited to include compensation, disability, education, and home loans. Throughout this paper I will discuss these benefits and the eligibility required to receive them. Eligibility for most VA benefits is based on type of discharge received through the military which is normally all discharges under other than dishonorable conditions.…
