Case Summary Of Borderline Personality Disorder: The Case Study Of Catherine

In The Case Study of Catherine, the client is a 27 year old African American female diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. The client lives at home with her husband and three children. Recently, she has been approved for Social Security Disability and receives $488.00 per month for a medical issue related to her hip and limited mobility. Other family income includes her husband, who is employed as a long-­‐distance truck driver and often, away for short periods at a time. Catherine excessively worries about life events and her family and finds these thoughts hard to control (Capella University, 2015). Additionally, Catherine stated she has feelings of “restlessness, being on edge, irritability, and difficulty concentrating” (Capella University, 2015). Catherine also says she fears doing “something wrong and “everyone” close to her will leave (Capella University, 2015). She admits to experiencing anxiety and having abandonment issues, all of which appear to effect Catherine’s relationships (Capella University, 2015).
He has begun to avoid her calls when he sees her name on the caller ID of his cell phone (Capella University, 2015). This only further frustrates Catherine and causes her to worry even more about her family (Capella University, 2015). On one hand, Catherine says that she loves her husband and that he is a good father (Capella University, 2015). However, she states that she does not trust him and feels he expects too much of her and their relationship (Capella University, 2015).
