In this essay I will be talking about how the author uses humor. The author of this poem is Earnest Lawrence Thayer. I will show you and tell you why the author used humor and examples of them. The point of humor in this story is to show how things are ironic and some are not.

One example from Casey at the bat was "one scornful look from Casey and the audience awed." They treated Casey and the like he was a god or something. He used irony to make the point of how they looked up to him which was humorous. Another example is "there is no joy in Mudville - mighty Casey has struck out." Its saying how they believed in him to win the game. It is ironic because he was such a show off that it rendered the game. Finally my last example is when Casey

In An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Peyton Fahrquar is sentenced to death by hanging by the federal military during the civil war for attempting to burn a bridge they were controlling. In this short story, Fahrquar jumps off of the bridge with the noose around his neck and his hands and feet tied, but he still lives.
