Summary:
The Balkan War took place from 1912-1913 in the Balkan Peninsula in the southeastern part of Europe. Greece, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Serbia had gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in the 2oth century but their ethnic population was still under Ottoman rule. These nations formed the Balkan League. The League decided to attack the Ottoman Empire and the First Balkan War took place in October of 1912 and ended seven months later. The Ottoman Empire lost power of all its nations in the Balkans. Then in June of 1915 the Second Balkan War broke out. Serbia and Greece attacked Bulgaria, as well as Romania and the Ottoman Empire. Bulgaria lost and issued an artemise leading to the Treaty of Bucharest, making Bulgaria give back part of the land it won in the First Balkan Crisis.
MAIN Cause: Imperialism(Primary) and Alliance(Secondary)
During the World War the Balkan Wars gave the Austrio-Hungarians an excuse to threaten and attack Serbia, but that was not the cause of the World War. Preparations for the War began long before that in all the Great Powers. For example the UK and France had negotiated a secret military assistance treaty in the early year) of the 1900. It was all about colonies, and the push for every nation to acquire, expand, and maintain colonies. Germany was the last of the great nations of Europe to be united, and therefore the last to join the European imperial race abroad. Their navy posed the greatest threat to the British Royal Navy, on which the UK and the world looked to for freedom of the sea.
