On the homefront rationing became a big part of life. The government was managing how much food people bought and distributing goods to consumers in fixed amounts. Industries were producing war goods and not commercial goods. Price controls also increased. American people were becoming more and more anti-german. High schools stopped teaching German culture and German books were taken away from bookshelves. Now on the European front soldiers were being sent to Europe in convoys, a group of ships surrounded by a wing of destroyers, torpedoes and armed naval vessels with hydrophones to track and destroy submarines. On the European front they were running out of men to recruit and back home soldiers were still being trained. When soldiers were get tired they were replaced with what people called doughboys, young and energetic American soldiers. The European front for soldiers was cruel and deadly due to different diseases gas attacks and artillery. Men were dying every minute. There was also a great lack of food and water for the soldiers and they do not bathe or change their clothes for several months. So life on the home front was difficult but much easier than on the European
