World War One also known as the “great war” was one of the deadliest wars ever. It included countries like Great Britain, France, Russia, Germany and Italy. There are many causes as too be a war of such great magnitude there has to be many factors leading to its starting. Some of the main causes are Militarism, Nationalism, Imperialism and Alliances. Many people say that alliances were the most important cause and I agree with this statement. Alliances led to it being such a big war and they also created lots of tension between the two sides.
I think Alliances are the most important cause of WW1 because it led too the war being larger as the countries in the alliances had to be involved as well. Also it made countries nervous that the other countries were preparing for war. The main alliances were the triple alliance and the triple entente. The triple alliance formed in 1882 consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy. The other alliance was the triple Entente formed in 1907. This consisted of Great Britain, France and Russia. These alliances led to “world” war because when Austria went to war with Serbia the Russians felt obliged to help the Serbians. When the Russians helped the Serbians Germany declared war on Russia. Germany declared war because of their alliance with Austria-Hungary. These alliances kept adding more countries to the war. This shows how alliances are a major cause because it forced other countries to join the war and make it a lot larger. This can also be seen as a Condition as the increased number of countries present means that the War is possible. Otherwise it may just have been a small political battle between Serbia and Austria-Hungary. The large number of countries involved made it a war. Another explanation is that Germany felt under pressure from the triple Entente and she thought that they needed to build up an army. In response the triple
