Cessna: The Company

At this point they reopened the doors of the company and began the long climb up to what Cessna is known for today. They would design and build many different types of aircraft, many for the military.
Cessna Model 120: The start of an epic line
In 1946, Cessna would see commercial production reestablished after cessation of the hostilities of World War 2. The company would release the Model 120 and 140 aircraft that year, marking the beginning of the line of aircraft that would eventually coalesce into the Cessna Model 172. These two aircraft were different from past aircraft in that they were of all metal construction and utilized modern industrial manufacturing techniques. The two models would be known to all as great trainer aircraft.
The Birth of the Cessna 172
The Cessna Model 172 was originally developed as an improvement on the Cessna Model 170. The Cessna 170 was a well-known and well revered 4-seat tail dragging trainer aircraft. The birth of the Cessna 172 is a bit tricky to nail down. Since the aircraft was originally just an advancement on the Cessna 170 design, Cessna decided to type certify the aircraft as a direct derivative of the Cessna Model 170.
