Thomas and the others become a part of this organization and a few days later, they began to overthrow W.I.C.K.E.D’s headquarters. Thomas was sent to the headquarters to distract the security, but they told Thomas that all they needed to find a cure was to remove his brain, which would be fatal. He realized that by sacrificing his life, he could save many others, so he agreed. Luckily, the chief surgeon stopped the procedure and left him a note for what to do in order to save himself, his friends, and about two hundred other people who were immune to The Flare. The note also told him how to escape W.I.C.K.E.D and begin a safe new life to start the human race all over again. With cities falling left and right, betrayal at every turn, and friends dying right in front of their eyes, it made the story very exciting. Having the world fall apart day by day, time was truly of the essence throughout the book. When the group finds out that W.I.C.K.E.D is searching for them, they go into the real world which is like a story in itself. Cranks are hiding in the streets, and they have to get through the city’s security without them recognizing the group. If the city did find out who Thomas and the others were, they would be sent back to W.I.C.K.E.D for more tests to find a cure that is now officially non-existent. It ends with a cliffhanger of not knowing what is going to happen to those who are immune which makes you dwell on future possibilities long after you have finished the
