At first Eragon was more sensitive, got made really easily, was kind of annoying with his questions, but the mood was still very light and mysterious kind of. For instance, Eragon’s curiosity about the dragons led him to asking Brom about them. On pg 54, Christopher writes, “‘How big were the dragons?’... ‘Did dragons live very long?’...‘But they were animals,’ Eragon persisted. Brom snorted…” This shows Eragon’s feelings at the beginning. During his journey, he became less curious, bolder, and had more control of his emotions. On pg. 170-171, it states, “The long days and strenuous work stripped Eragon’s body of excess fat. He arms became corded and his tanned skin rippled with lean muscles. Everything about me is turning hard, he thought dryly.” This shows him now, and the mood being more serious due to the fact that Eragon is more serious now. This proves that the mood of the story changes due the change in the feelings of Eragon. Lastly, the mood of the story changes because of the discoveries Eragon makes. After finding Saphira’s egg, he becomes a Rider, and the mood gets more serious. Being a Rider caused the mood to become more serious, because he had to go against the powerful king and against his army of soldiers and thousands of monsters.
