. Chapter 1. The Problem And Its Setting
INTRODUCTION Gelatin is a translucent, brittle, flavorless solid substance. It is commonly used as a gelling agent in food, pharmaceuticals, photography, and cosmetic manufacturing but it is commonly used as a foodstuff. It is found in most gummy candies as well as other products such as marshmallows, gelatin dessert, and some ice cream, dip and yogurt. For Filipino household gelatin, it usually comes in the form of sheets, granules, or powder that is being cooked as desserts or an add-on for salads for parties or feasts. Graham crackers are popularly known not just as a snack but also a main ingredient for chilled cakes. Chilled cake or fridge cake is a kind of homemade cake that is convenient for people to make it and serve as a dessert since it doesn’t need to use flours or other ingredients and other materials such as oven. It is simply made by mixing the cream, layering the biscuits and putting on the toppings. That is why people are fond of creating different recipes for graham cakes because it is easy to make, truly tasty and can be enjoyed by anyone. Jelly cake is a homemade recipe that unlike “crema de fruta”, it is unpopular in the dessert list of Filipinos. From this idea, the proponents decided to produce jelly cakes, graham cakes with gelatin on top that can be irresistible in the market. Since its recipe is unknown to the people, the proponents expect that it can be a successful business as it will be offered to the public in different flavors of their own choice.
