Chapter 11 What's With American Business
Through the remaining half of the book, it was clear that Mr. Lutz was blunt with his opinions on different subjects, especially with those that had its effects on GM. In considering him a “businessman” I would have to say that I respect the fact that he does not shy away from truly expressing his thoughts and speaking out on what he believes. More specifically, in Chapter 11 What’s with American Business Anyway, he speaks out on business schools. In this chapter, something that stood out to me most was when he calls the business students “bright, analytical, dispassionate, data-driven geniuses”. Signal tenders delivery in its own truck. Tuner's manager notices that some of the cartons have scrape marks. Tuner's owner phones Signal's office and asks whether the sets might have been damaged as they were being loaded. Signal assures Tuner that the sets are in perfect condition. Tuner tenders Signal a check, which Signal refuses, claiming that the first delivery to new customers is always for cash. Tuner promises to pay the cash within two days. Signal leaves the sets with Tuner, which stores them in its warehouse pending its "Grand Opening Sale" on May 15. Two days later, Tuner's stocker opens some of the cartons and discovers that a number of the sets are damaged beyond ordinary repair. There are two ways I could look at this proposed writing assignment. First, If Michelle opened a document service preparation business for herself and was not practicing law, giving advice, or representing clients, in or out of court, for any reasons, she may be able to perform a basic document typing service to clients. She must never hold herself out to be an attorney or legal representative in any way to any one and must state this in disclaimers and posted notices in her business as well as during client interview, she must state this upfront to all her clients. Then it would be possible for her to have a business, in this industry and not be in violation of the law. While reading Chapter 11, “Hearing”, I learned some pretty interesting things. Our ability to hear events that we can’t see serves an important signaling function for both animals and humans. For an animal living in the forest, the rustle of leaves or the snap of a twig may signal the approach of a predator. For humans, hearing provides signals such as the warning sound of a smoke alarm or an ambulance siren, the distinctive high indicate problems in a car engine. Hearing not only informs us about things that are happening that we can’t see, but perhaps most important of all, it adds richness to our lives through music and facilitates communication by means of speech.…
