Rainsford sees it and quickly counteracts the action with wrapping the rope aroung Zaroff’s neck starting to mercelessly squeeze the life out of him. Sanger Rainsford outsmarted General Zaroff in many unique ways. At the beginning, he made a decoy trail that was very confusing. Next, Rainsford dug a Burmese Tiger Pit that took one of Zaroff’s best hunting dogs that showed how knowledgeable he was in hunting and traps. The last thing Rainsford did to outsmart was very dangerous. Since he was in top physical condition, he jumped off a cliff into the sea to escape General Zaroff and his whole pack of dogs!…

How did Sanger Rainsford successfully outsmart General Zaroff in the manhunt? In “The Most Dangerous Game” there are multiple ways Rainsford outsmarts Zaroff but there are three main ways, that are my favorite. The first trap that Rainsford made to get Zaroff is a Malay man catcher. Then Rainsford sets a second trap that is called the Burmese Tiger pit that killed one of Zaroff's best dogs. Finally the last trap is where Rainsford ties his knife to a sapling branch with some vine. The trap didn’t kill Zaroff, it did kill Ivan though. These are my favorite three ways Zaroff was outsmarted by Rainsford.…

Ultimately Zaroff can be characterized as Mysterious and cruel. First off one way Zaroff is mysterious is he already knows who Rainsford is without ever meeting each other before. Conelle page 44, “It is a very great pleasure and honor to welcome Mr. Sanger Rainsford, the celebrated hunter, to my home… I am General Zaroff.” As you can see from this quote Zaroff is excited to meet Rainsford and immediately wants to get to know him better. My second reason is Zaroff acts strange in general around Rainsford. Conelle page 44 “The menacing look in his eyes did not change… a black uniform trimmed with gray astrakhan.” By this quote you can tell Rainsford is feeling uncertain and curious of him. You can also tell by his first reaction he is in some…

The two men don’t feel bad for hunting and taking their prey’s life. As shown when Rainsford remarks, “Who cares how a Jaguar feels, (1)”. Also, how General Zaroff who has already taken many animals lives, then proclaims, “I had to invent a new animal to hunt,” (8). Both examples show how both Rainsford and Zaroff show no empathy for murdering the animals as well as the humans. Therefore, Zaroff and Rainsford alike in the way they hunt. Another way Zaroff and Rainsford are alike is their belief that the world is divided into two classes. Zaroff’s theory being the world is divided by strong/weak. Zaroff states his opinion, “Life is for the strong...The weak were put here to give the strong pleasure,” (9). As for Rainsford’s perspective, he believes, “The world is made up of two classes, the hunted/huntee.” Both men believe that in the world, you're either one or the other. Furthermore, both men show identical qualities after Rainsford kills Zaroff when he sleeps in his bed, “He had never slept in a better bed.” (16). This shows that Rainsford now believes he has the power that Zaroff once had and accepts that he is now like Zaroff. In addition, they both are alike because when…

Rainsford begins to plot down what he will do to win the game, since General Zaroff has not lost any of them before, “The softness of the earth had gave him an idea” (45). In addition, General Zaroff has never lost to anybody, Rainsford gets ideas and plans to kill General Zaroff with different methods. Obviously, everyone in life has thoughts of giving up in a race or battle, “I will not lose my nerve. I will not” (43). Rainford, at this point, can not give up and will do about anything to win and defeat him. Consequently, Rainsfords motivation is to attempt to kill…

He found some clothing that previously belonged to General Zaroff in the wonderfully crafted dresser to the left of the bed. Rainsford changed into these clothes and found a wastebasket in the corner of the room to dispose of his old clothes. As he put his old clothes, covered in blood, in the wastebasket, he thought back to last night and remembered the relief he felt when General Zaroff was dead. It was only last night that he stole the knife off of General Zaroff’s bed and plunged…

The first reason Rainsford should have killed Zaroff is because Zaroff is insane. Zaroff should be imprisoned in Russia for this reason. Zaroff inflicts pain on innocent people for amusement. He intentionally shipwrecks people then later hunts them. Zaroff has no respect for human life, he has no morality, and he has no awareness of the difference between man and beast.…

I survived his hunt, but I don’t know what he might do now. Remember, Ivan, Zaroff’s previous assistant. He had to help Zaroff hunt his victim, but he died under one of my traps. Even if you don’t get hurt, do you even want to help Zaroff kill people? It is a crime and you are being an accomplice! It is also wrong to not tell on…

Zaroff’s lose was due to the fact that he thought he was the best and there was no one out there that could beat him. For example Zaroff, in the beginning of the book, tells Rainsford how he has never failed in the ‘game’ and how he always wins. In my opinion, at this point Zaroff was too cocky and there was no way that Rainsford was going to let him win. When it comes to confidence you can’t have to much of it because if you start to get to confident, you give other people a reason they want to beat you even more than they did before they knew you were cocky. I think that is just what Rainsford did in “The Most Dangerous Game.” I think he not only wanted to beat Zaroff just to survive, but I also think he wanted to show him that he isn’t the only great hunter on this island.…

This quote shows that the role of hunter and hunted are not set in stone; Rainsford realizes that he is losing a role that he had always assumed he would always have. He is big game – not a big game hunter. However, the fluidity of the roles of hunter and prey also works to Rainsford’s favor. After jumping into the ocean, Rainsford swims to Zaroff’s lair and confronts him in a duel.” I congratulate you,” He [Zaroff] said.”You have won the game.” Rainsford did not smile.”I am still a beast at bay”(15) shows the change in the roles of Zaroff and Rainsford. Rainsford infiltrated into Zaroff’s home and is now getting ready to kill the general, regardless of the fact that the “game” is over. It is what the reader least expects, thus a piece of situational irony because prey run away and get hunted down and killed by the predator Instead Rainsford becomes the hunter, and now his demands rules supreme. Zaroff was ambushed by Rainsford and is now at his mercy. He is now the prey, and the rules that he made while hunter are irrelevant. This situation was clearly different from page 11, where the general cheerfully informed Rainford that he was going to be hunted…
