Character Analysis: Marshal Herrick
I chose choice 2 to write my essay about option .2. We are told in Act Two that Marshal Herrick is “somewhat shamefaced” upon entering the Proctor household. When chaining Elizabeth, he explains to John, “The law binds me, John, I cannot budge.” Clearly, he is a man uncomfortable with his assigned duty. Yet, he still performs the act out of respect for the chain of command. Is this the right thing to do? Is it more important to follow orders or to follow your own sense of right and wrong? Explain your answer with examples.
In my personal opinion Marshal Herrick should have explained his beliefs and explained that he couldn’t do what he was asked to do because it goes against his personal beliefs. I feel as if your personal beliefs should matter

From these two chapters, it helped shows real character of Norman Bowker because he’s one of the person that doesn’t like to express his feelings too. From what I read he’s a very caring because the death of his friend caused so much pain for him where he didn’t let it go even after the war due to he wasn’t being a good leader. “The truth,” Norman Bowker would’ve said, “is I let the guy go” (147). This shows that he took a while to tell the real reason why he wasn’t able to earn the Silver Star because according to his mom he was a very shy person and doesn’t like talking about his feelings and problems. In a way, Norman Bowker seem like he doesn’t want to drag people into his problems so that is why he stay quite. Later on he soon realize…

The idea of finding a fictional character has never come across my mind before reading this prompt. After giving it much though, I believe that I am most like Hank Lawson from Royal Pains. Hank is one of the main characters on the show. He is part owner of Hank Med as well as the head physician for it as well. Even though it appears at first glance that he has his life is under control, Hank rarely is able to keep tabs on everything. His two biggest issues that he faced were between his lover, Jill Casey, and his family issues with his father and brother, Eddie and Evan Lawson.…

Royall Tyler’s play is called The Contrast because it focuses on the differences between Americans and Europeans and the contrast between upper class society and lower class society for example, fashion, mannerisms, and lingo. The play introduces Jonathan as Colonel Manly’s Yankee waiter during the war. Jonathan’s way of thinking, his language, and his fashion sense emulates that of his master, Colonel Manly. Both Col. While in the mall, Jonathan meets Jessamy, Mr. Dimple’s servant. In contrast to Jonathan, Jessamy’s style reflects that of his master. Jessamy is very well dressed, educated on the…

Bartleby is described as completely emotionless. He wrote on silently, palely and mechanically, at first when he wrote. He is also described as a ghost. It should be pointed out that the narrator’s problems with his other employees have to do with their unreliability, sloppiness and flaring tempers. Turkey and Nippers are quite the opposite of Bartleby, yet the main conflict that “Bartleby the Scrivener” presents is an internal problem. The narrator cannot deal with someone who appears to be void of any human attributes. In the descriptions of Turkey and Nippers, there is some sort of organic mechanization in the way they work, and how their temperaments change: “Their fits relieved each other, like guards. When Nipper’s was on, Turkey’s was off; and vice versa”. “Ah, Bartleby! Ah, humanity!” is the closing sentence in Melville’s short story “Bartleby the Scrivener”. It is a strong claim about what it means to act according to a certain concept of humanness. The author may be saying that it is human nature to have faults; however losing the ability to emote and connect with one’s surrounding world is…
