Hassan, it hurt his feelings. Throughout the years Baba has always treated Hassan more than a son then Amir.
Since it was easy for Hassan to get affection from Baba Amir resented Hassan. Amir has always been jealous of Hassan, which means to envy a person of their achievements. (Hosseni, page 89) Amir was upset and says “Baba, have you ever thought about getting new servants?” then Baba’s reactions were unpleasant. Amir was hoping that Baba would have agreed to a new servant, but inside he knew he would never let Hassan go because to Baba he is family. Amir concluded that if Baba was to agree to a new servant, then Amir can stop having to resent Hassan for always have the attention from Baba. This showed how much Baba loves Hassan, or how much he cares weather Hassan is in their
life. Most of the protagonist life has been rejected by his own father because he was the cause of his mother’s death. Ever since the mom died Baba has held Amir accountable, causing him to reject Amir. In the book Baba says “If I wasn’t there when you were born then I would have never knew you were my son.” From this quote we can see the early resentment that will progressively grow as the year go by. Amir has never had affection from his dad as he grows up, because of what happened to his mother. In chapter 8 Amir was terrified of his dad dying, leading Amir to clamps onto Baba’s thigh, but Baba is quick to pry his hand loose from him. Even at that moment weather Baba was going to die or not he continued to reject Amir. At that moment the reader’s gained sympathy for Amir, because no matter how hard Amir tries to get at least a little bit of affection, he is always shut out from Baba.
Amir’s life was full of hardships, tragedy, physical and emotional abuse. Amir goes through all of these emotions as a child which set the mood for as sympathetic, because these kind of emotional are harder for kids to get through. Since Amir was young, full of jealousy, and rejected for most of his childhood it causes a huge impact on the two best friends. Towards the end of the book all of Amir’s immoral actions catch up with him as an adult, resulting in the fact that it’s hard for Amir to be happy. Everything he has done in the past reflects him still as an adult, because he will always hold onto those memories of what happened to Hassan. As he grew up he begins to regret what he has done to Hassan that he can never take back because Hassan is dead, which lead the audience to feel pity towards him.
