Although over the years and as mentioned before Deanna is still subjected to her dad's cold shoulder because of the incident and the numbness and the back lash of a whole town she still continues on despite of the “awkwardness” of the situation to grow and learn from it. Deanna does grow as an adolescent and will come to acknowledge however, her life is not something she can arrange and going ahead is not an alternative until you have made peace with the past. In this book the main character can think herself away far from the recognizable schedules of her regular daily existence. By attempting to work at the pizzeria, make money, and move out with her older sibling Darren, his girlfriend, and their child who are all as of now living in the small room of their spare home, the main character is able to see a hope for a better life.
